PLATINUM HISTOGRAPH HEIRLOOM MINIATURESTMTM
Platinum Histograph Heirloom MiniaturesTM are ACEO sized handmade platinum and platinum/palladium fine art prints created by master darkroom photographer, Tim Layton.
Tim Layton, an artistic innovator invented the Platinum HistographTM, inviting you to use your senses to take a step back in time. This visceral experience of holding history in your hands delights history buffs, art collectors, photographers and art enthusiasts with craftsmanship, artistry, and history through a curated collection of fine platinum prints in a small format that opens up the joy of collecting fine art to just about everyone in the modern world.
Tim is the first black and white fine art darkroom photographer in the world creating and selling Platinum Histograph Heirloom MiniaturesTM.
DETAILS FOR THE COLLECTOR
A Platinum Histograph Heirloom MiniatureTM is the most archival of all art mediums because of the inherent stability of platinum and exhibits a tonal scale and rendering of tonal values that are described by many as ethereal and three-dimensional. Once you hold a Platinum HistographTM Heirloom Miniature in your hands for a personal experience, you will understand what makes them so unique and valuable.
Platinum is one of the rarest elements in earth’s crust. Because of its scarcity and is valued as a precious metal, the price is elevated and its only used for important reasons. Over the last ten years, the price for an ounce of Platinum reached an all-time high at $2,270.50 per ounce.
Platinum is one of the least reactive metals, and it has remarkable resistance to corrosion, even at high temperatures, and is therefore considered a noble metal. This is one of the reasons why it is the perfect choice for making handmade Platinum HistographsTM to preserve history.
Noble metals are metals that are resistant to corrosion and oxidation in moist air, unlike base metals. The short list of chemically noble metals includes ruthenium (Ru), rhodium (Rh), palladium (Pd), silver (Ag), osmium (Os), iridium (Ir), gold (Au), and platinum (Pt), with Platinum being more stable than even gold.

By combing the remarkable stability of platinum with a high quality and chemically pure paper substrate, you get the world most archival photographic print that can last indefinitely when curated properly.
Each Platinum HistographTM is hand mounted on museum-quality mat board devoid of any optical brighteners or other agents to speed up the deterioration process.
Each Platinum HistographTM includes Tim's original signature, the title of the work, date it was created, edition number, and a certificate of authenticity validating the original artwork.
THE WORLD NEEDS MORE ART
In an over-busy, technology-driven world, viewing photographs of natural subjects such as flowers, trees, and scenic vistas have been medically proven to help lower blood pressure, reduce stress and anxiety, and shorten recovery time from illness.
When viewing black and white nature-based art, something magical happens that is unexpected. Your mind engages in a way that isn’t possible if the art were in color. Your mind fills in the gaps and makes the natural subject the color that you want. The high contrast and delicate details in black and white photos evoke an emotional response, unlike color images.
DETAILS ABOUT PLATINUM HISTOGRAPH HEIRLOOM MINIATURESTM
Every part of my process is handmade and there are no computers used in any part of my creative process.
All of my Platinum Histograph Heirloom MiniaturesTM are artist original limited edition of 250 each. As with my larger limited edition Platinum Histograph Heirloom Prints, each heirloom miniature is signed, dated, and numbered. Every one of my Platinum Histograph Heirloom MiniaturesTM comes standard with a protective sleeve so that it can be handled, viewed, and enjoyed safely at home and when mobile.
I ship my Platinum Histograph Heirloom MiniaturesTM in an extra rigid cardboard photo mailer to ensure it arrives safely to your home or office. If you want your new Platinum Histograph Heirloom MiniaturesTM mounted on acid-free mat board and/or a window mat custom cut, I am happy to do that for you at a reasonable price that we can discuss at the time of purchase. I also make custom handmade frames from reclaimed wood.
To conform to the ACEO size requirements, the finished Platinum Histograph Heirloom MiniaturesTM must be exactly 2.5" x 3.5", however, you can mount them in any size mats or even group them together for larger displays or even hang them individually to form a unique design.
After the film development process, I hand coat freshly mixed platinum chemicals on the fine art paper or vellum and expose it to UV light. I print on Hahnemühle Platinum Rag paper as my standard because of the purity of the medium and the thickness of the paper.
After the exposure process, I develop and process my Platinum Histograph Heirloom MiniaturesTM to the exact same archival standards as I do for my full-size Platinum Histograph Heirloom Fine Art Prints. You can watch this video on my YouTube channel of me creating Platinum Histograph Heirloom MiniaturesTM. The video may help you visualize the overall process.
If you have technical questions about any part of my creative process or you would just like to know more about these very special pieces of artwork, send me an email and introduce yourself and I would be delighted to schedule a time to talk with you directly.
WHAT ARE ACEOs?
ACEO stands for Artist Cards, Editions, & Originals. ACEOs are small pieces of art that always measure 2 1/2" x 3 1/2". They can be just about any type of art on a wide variety of mediums and substrates. They are either original artwork or numbered limited editions.
Because of their size, options for viewing, storing, and collecting are only limited by one's imagination. I think of ACEOs as miniature masterpieces. I am the first artist in the world to create artist original ACEO Platinum Histograph Heirloom MiniaturesTM.
